Solids and Liquids!

We have been hard at work experimenting with solids and liquids these past weeks!
First, we mixed various types of solids (mints, cookies, tin foil, rice, raisins, rock salt, etc.) with water. We let these sit over the weekend to see what changes took place. The goal was to see which changes could then possibly be reversed, so we discussed various ways to test our predictions. We decided letting the water evaporate might be the easiest, and were then able to see if the solid was irrevocably changed. The classroom was a little smelly for awhile!

We also mixed various liquids (oil, soap, fabric softener, corn syrup etc.) with water to see what would happen to those mixtures! Up next is to experiment with matter that may seem both solid and liquid, toothpaste and jell-o anyone?
