Dear Maple Families,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful break. I am consistently impressed with this group of kids – their work ethic, ability to be flexible, and personal responsibility is really shining through.

  1. There is no school this coming Monday, 1/15.
  2. Please return all library books, folders, etc. I know they can go into hiding over breaks!
  3. Yesterday we watched an awesome performance of the Santa Rosa Symphony’s percussion trio. They were great!
  4. Dance will start this month, it begins on the 26th and we will go on Friday’s right after lunch. Thank you ARK!
  5. A new book order is going home, it will be due Friday February 2nd.
  6. First graders have begun the “light” portion of our light and sound science unit, beginning with investigations surrounding shadows.
  7. Second graders are continuing the study of rocks; we are currently experimenting with particles of earth materials, such as silt and clay dust. This fits in with our discussions about weathering as a natural process and how sand is created.
  8. This week we talked about some goals for the New Year, ask your student what they want to accomplish in 2018.
  9. February is a busy month! Make sure to look at the upcoming dates.

Looking ahead:
1/15 – No school
2/2 – Book order due
2/8- 100th day of school!
2/12-2/15 – Parent Teacher Conferences, 12:05pm release
2/16- No School
2/19- No School
2/22- Field trip LBC

Have a great three-day weekend!
Ms. Martens
